City Creek Center

Improvement of the City Creek Center started in 2003, when a revenue driven organization claimed by the LDS Church bought the Crossroads Plaza Mall, a strip mall on the west side of Main Street from the ZCMI Center Mall. The two shopping centers had been built during the 1970s. In 2001, the Boyer Company finished its new outside shopping center called The Gateway, four squares toward the west of Crossroads and ZCMI, drawing more business away from Main Street. Before long, the Nordstrom store at Crossroads declared its goals to leave the shopping center and open another store at Gateway.
